President’s Message-Summer/Fall 2011

Dear GNJSHFSA Members, I’m so lucky to be president of the best professional foodservice networking group in the country. Greater New Jersey Society for Healthcare Food Service Admin- istrators, affectionately known as GNJSHFSA, is a great organi- zation because of our members. Monthly, we have wonderful social and educational activities with a highpoint being the time we spend together learning and networking.

Our organization is open to all self operated New Jersey healthcare food service professionals and is the best way to learn about best practices, new marketing ideas, and how our vendors can best help us. You cannot get these ben- efits unless you join and actively participate.

GNJSHFSA is nationally known for innovation, willingness to always better our best, leadership, and support- ing one another. We have this level of excellence with the sup- port of our vendor partners, board and general membership. Let me introduce you to the heart and soul of our chapter, our fabulous board members

Garry Feuerberg is our Treasurer. Garry has been one of the most active and long-standing board members of our organization. Keith Fitzgerald from PBAC & Associates is a new board member this year. From the beginning, he has been willing to lend his support to organize and promote our monthly events.

Angela O’Neil can be counted on being totally engaged whether the occasion is an education setting or when it’s time to get the party going at a networking event. I want to extend my personal thanks to Angela and Tonya for the super job they did organizing the successful July riverboat cruise – a well-attended Friday afternoon networking event.

Tonya Pizzuro represents our chapter from the Jersey shore. She is always willing to lend her opinion and exper- tise. During our board meetings, she adds playful twists and helps us come up with creative solutions.

Betty Perez has passion for healthcare foodservice. Peo- ple gravitate to Betty because she lights everything up with her excitement, energy and class. Even with her challenging job at NYU, Betty is still committed to her roots with the New Jersey Chapter. Thank you Betty for hosting and the “over the top” culinary display at our April event on the POD delivery system and catering.

Moti Almakias is from Full Service Vending. When he is on sales calls, he always remembers our organization. He has been instrumental with connecting our organization with new vendor relationships.

Sharon Sachenski is the face of GNJSHFSA with her many industry affiliations. In addition to her membership responsibilities, she has stepped up as the communicator of the organization with her email blasts.

Tony Almeida has amazing enthusiasm for the industry. He is smart, funny, and always generous to share ideas/ concepts to support others in elevating their operations. He hosted our second annual culinary competition, “Wings with Attitude” in May. Just wait for what he has planned for next year!!

Jim Taskalos supports the organization with his AFI/PFG resources. Thank you for including our members in your ServSafe classes. Gary Triolo always looks at the world positively and his cup is not just half full but over-flowing. He is the first to give a smile, kind word or a pat on the back. Thank you Gary for organizing and hosting our upcoming financial seminar in September.

Michael Atanasio is our president elect. I expect him to shake things up next year in his presidency and bringing GNJSHFSA to a new level. With his background in both self-op and contract services, he is always willing to share his knowledge and mentor other members.

Joe Wojtecki is our past president. Joe is the best MC and he can always get the crowd going with his personality. He has THE JERSEY ATTITUDE.

Michael Buoncristiano from Sysco is a long time sup- porter of our chapter with Serv Safe classes and hosting events. He graciously accepted the role of Recording Sec- retary this year.

I encourage everyone to get involved in this dynamic orga- nization. It has enriched my professional development and I’ve made a great group of friends along the way.

Lynda Carpenito, the newlywed, has provided real value to our chapter over the years. Her merchandising talents were put to the test at the June National event. We had the most colorful, informative and creative Chapter display ta- ble thanks to her efforts.

Dawn Cascio has a strong commitment to her staff and our organization by having so many of her team involved as members. She and Betty are creating another awesome October Recognition Dinner Dance.

“Promise only what you can deliver; deliver more than you promise.”

Marsha Diamond is always reinventing her role in the industry. She readily brings to GNJSHFSA her knowledge of new technology, resources, and fresh new ideas to help us succeed as self-operators.
