The Results Are In… and the winner is…

The Greater New Jersey Society for Healthcare Food Service Administrators held their third annual culinary competition at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ on Thursday, May 24, 2012.

There were eight hospitals and four vendor partners who participated in the competition, entering a total of 21 different types of balls.

The judging was led by Marsha Diamond, RD, Foodservice Business Development Consultant and four professional chefs from industry, business and private sectors.

The first place trophy was presented to NYU Langone Medical Center.  NYU’s team was led by Executive Catering Chef Istvan Ungi and Chef David Oland with their entries of Arancini di Farro with Olive, Lemon and Tomato and NYULMC’s Blue Ball with an Apricot-Chili Chutney.

Second place was presented to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.  RWJUH’s team was led by Executive Chef Douglas Stehle and Chef Joe Salim with their entries of Tandoori Lamb Meatball with Spinach and Paneer Molecular Sphere Garnish and Tsunami Sushi Meatball with Daikon Relish.

Third Place was presented to St. Peter’s Medical Center.  St. Peter’s team was led by Executive Chef Tim Gee and Chef Mike Hines with their entries of Savory Saffron Risotto Meatballs Stuffed with Sharp Provolone Cheese, complimented by a Chipotle Cream Sauce and Stuffed Spanish Chorizo Meatballs with Grandma’s Tomato Sauce.

It was an amazing competition and it clearly showed that Healthcare Food Service in New Jersey and New York is attracting energetic, creative new chef’s who are committed to making a positive impact on patient and employee dining.
