The speaker at 1:00, TJ Schier gave a motivating, fun, and informative talk. He challenged the audience to inspire their teams to get their customers to say “WOW!”

A thoughtful quote he ended with encapsulated his talk – “The taste of the roast depends on the handshake of the host.” Benjamin Franklin – PJ shared with us a tool to help manger get better results

The manager should showcase the behavior they want their employees to emulate. Plus, if the manager is really good, mangers can integrate training tools with survey results (oh yes, managers need to measure customer satisfaction relentlessly on an ongoing basis. Training is operations and operations is training

At 11:00 am , our next speaker John Lawn from Food Management magazine shared with us the evolving trends we will be facing in the future. When John looked int his crystal ball he saw the need for hospitals to focus more on cuisine than just getting the food out to the patients and staff. He sees an aging population who is going to demand better food. He sees budgets being cut while the demand for better cuisine (fresher, tastier, and healthier) will challenge the creativity and innovation in all of us. He sees that GNJSHFSA is up to the challenge.

10:38 am – So far we’ve heard 2 speakers, Paul King and Jim McGrody. Both were excellent.

Paul brought new awareness to everyone regarding the importance of providing Gold Standard service at all times. Paul opened our eyes to the how college campuses are at the forefront of consumer centric food service.

Jim McGrody shared with us the chef training programs he has put in place as well as foods he has outlawed from his hospital ‘s kitchens. Plus, if you missed his presentation, consider picking up his book called “What We Feed Our Patients”.
